دعاء الحزين

The supplication of Grief

سْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, The Beneficent, the Merciful

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

O Allah bless Muhammad and his family

اُنَاجِیْکَ یَا مَوْجُوْدًا فِیْ کُلِّ مَکَانٍ

I whisper unto You O One Who is present in every place

لَعَلَّکَ تَسْمَعُ نِدَآئِیْ

so that You may hear my call

فَقَدْ عَظُمَ جُرْمِیْ

for surely my sin is excessive

وَ قَلَّ حَیَآئِیْ

and my shame is less

مَوْلَایَ یَا مَوْلَایَ

My Master, O my Master

اَیَّ الْاَھْوَالِ اَتَذَکَّرُ

which of the terrifying states shall I remember

وَ اَیَّھَا اَنْسٰی

and which of them shall I forget

وَ لَوْ لَمْ یَکُنْ اِلاَّ الْمَوْتُ لَکَفٰی

for if there was nothing except death it would be enough

کَیْفَ وَمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ اَعْظَمُ وَ اَدْھٰی

then what about after death greater and much worse?

مَولاَیَ یَا مَوْلاَیَ

My master O my Master

حَتّٰی مَتٰی وَ اِلٰي مَتٰي اَقُوْلُ لَکَ

up to when and till when will I say,

الْعُتْبٰی مَرَّۃً بَعْدَ اُخْرٰی

I am to blame, again and again,

ثُمَّ لاَ تَجِدُ عِنْدِیْ صِدْقًا وَ لاَ وَفَآءً

but then You do not find any truth or loyalty in me?

فَیَاغَوْثَاہُ ثُمَّ وَاغَوْثَاہُ بِکَ

I call for help and I call for help,

یَا اَللّٰہُ مِنْ ھَوًی قَدْ غَلَبَنِیْ

O Allah from desires which have overpowered me

وَ مِنْ عَدُوٍّ قَدِ اسْتَکْلَبَ عَلَیَّ

and from the enemy which has pounced on me

وَ مِنْ دُنْیَا قَدْ تَزَیَّنَتْ لِیْ

and from the world which attracts me

وَ مِنْ نَفْسٍ اَمَّارَۃٍ بِالسُّوٓءِ

and from the soul that leads towards evil

اِلاَّ مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّیْ

except that on which my Lord has mercy (12:53)

مَوْلاَیَ یَا مَوْلاَیَ

My master O my master

اِنْ کُنْتَ رَحِمْتَ مِثْلِی فَارْحَمْنِیْ

if You have had mercy on the likes of me then have mercy on me

وَ اِنْ کُنْتَ قَبِلْتَ مِثْلِیْ فَاقْبَلْنِیْ

and if You have accepted from the likes of me then accept from me

یَا قَبِلَ السَّحَرَۃِ اِقْبَلْنِیْ

O One Who accepts the early morning prayer accept me,

یَا مَنْ لَمْ اَزَلْ اَتَعَرَّفُ مِنْہُ الْحُسْنٰی

O One who, I still know only good from Him

یَا مَنْ یُغَذِّیْنِیْ بِالنِّعَمِ صَبَاحًا وَ مَسَآءً

O One who nourishes me with blessings morning and evening

اِرْحَمْنِیْ یَوْمَ اٰتِیْکَ فَرْدًا

have mercy on me when I come to You alone,

شَاخِصًا اِلَیْکَ بَصَرِیْ

my glance fixed on You

مُقَلَّدًا عَمَلِیْ

my actions carried on my neck

قَدْ تَبَرَّءَ جَمِیْعُ الْخَلْقِ مِنِّیْ

When all of creation will withdraw away from me

نَعَمْ وَ اَبِیْ وَ اُمِّیْ

yes, even my father and mother

وَ مَنْ کَانَ لَہٗ کَدِّیْ وَ سَعْیِیْ

and those for whom I worked and struggled

فَاِنْ لَمْ تَرْحَمْنِیْ فَمَنْ یَرْحَمُنِیْ

then if You will not have mercy on me who will have mercy on me

وَ مَنْ یُوْنِسُ فِیْ الْقَبْرِ وَحْشَتِیْ

who will give me solace from the loneliness of the grave

وَ مَنْ یُنْطِقُ لِسَانِیْ اِذَا خَلَوْتُ بِعَمَلِیْ

and who will make me speak when I am alone with my deeds

وَ سَاءَلْتَنِیْ عَمَّا اَنْتَ اَعْلَمُ بِہٖ مِنِّیْ

and when You will ask me about what You know better than me?

فَاِنْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَاَیْنَ الْمَحْرَبُ مِنْ عَدْلِکَ

Then if I say yes (to my sins) where will be the escape from Your Justice?

وَ اِنْ قُلْتُ لَمْ اَفْعَلْ قُلْتَ اَلَمْ اَکُنِ الشَّاھِدَ عَلَیْکَ

And if I say I did not commit it You will say was I not a witness over you?

فَعَفْوُکَ عَفْوُکَ یَا مَوْلاَیَ

So (I beseech) Your Forgiveness Your Pardon O my master

قَبْلَ سَرَابِیْلِ الْقَطِرَانِ

before the wearing of the clothes of Hell

عَفْوُکَ عَفْوُکَ یَا مَوْلاَیَ

Your Forgiveness Your Pardon O my Master

قَبْلَ جَھَنَّمَ وَ النِّیْرَانِ

before the Hell and the Fire

عَفْوُکَ عَفْوُکَ یَا مَوْلاَیَ

Your Forgiveness Your Forgiveness O my Master

قَبْلَ اَنْ تُغَلَّ الْاَیْدِیْ اِلٰی الْاَعْنَاقِ

before the hands are tied to the necks

یَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِیْنَ وَ خَیْرَ الْغَافِرِیْنَ.

O the most Merciful and the best of Forgivers
