BackSalat-e-Jafar-e-Tayyar

Salaat of -Ja’far-e-Tayyar (brother of Imam Ali (as) is among the prayers that are greatly emphasized and it is famous among all sects. It was a gift of love bestowed by the Holy Prophet ( s.a.w.s.) to his cousin upon his return from the journey.

Imam Sadiq has said

On the day of the conquest of Khyber when Ja’far returned from Abyssinia the Holy Prophet ( s.a.w.s.) asked: Don’t you want a reward? Don’t you want a gift? Hazrat Ja’far replied: Why not, O Messenger of Allah? The Messenger of Allah ( s.a.w.s.) said: I am giving you something that if you perform it everyday it would better than all those things that are present in the world. And if you perform it once in two days the Almighty will forgive the sins of both these days and if you perform it every Friday or every month or every year the Almighty will forgive all the sins committed in between.

The best time to perform it is on Friday before noon. This prayer can be counted as the Nafila of the night or the Nafila of the day. It is a 4 rakat salat, divided into 2 parts of 2 rakat each, much like the fajr salat with some adjustments.

Tasbeeh Arbaaa is recited 75 times in each rakaat, as per schedule below, but for ease, it is allowed to recite it 300 (75x4) times at the end of this prayer.

  1. In the first rakaat, after Surah Al Fatiha, recite Surah Zilzaal

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
When the earth is shaken with her (violent) shaking,
And the earth brings forth her burdens,
And man says: What has befallen her?
On that day she shall tell her news,
Because your Lord had inspired her.
On that day men shall come forth in sundry bodies that they may be shown their works.
So. he who has done an atom's weight of good shall see it
And he who has done an atom's weight of evil shall see it.

  2. Recite Tasbeehatul Arbaa 15 times after the recitation of each surah

Glory be to Allah, Praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is Great.

  3. In this Ruku (and in each Ruku), recite the same tasbeeh another 10 times. Recite another 10 times in Qiyaam after ruku

Glory be to Allah, Praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is Great.

  4. Recite Tasbeeh Arbaa in each Sajda 10 times, and another times after the second sajdah of each rakaat. This way each rakaat has 75 recitations of Tasbeeh Arbaaa.
  5. In the second rakaat, after Al Fatiha, recite Surah Al Aadiyat

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
I swear by the runners breathing pantingly,
Then those that produce fire striking,
Then those that make raids at morn,
    Then thereby raise dust,
Then rush thereby upon an assembly:
Most surely man is ungrateful to his Lord.
And most surely he is a witness of that.
And most surely he is tenacious in the love of wealth.
Does he not then know when what is in the graves is raised,
And what is in the breasts is made apparent?
Most surely their Lord that day shall be fully aware of them.

  6. After Surah Al Hamd in the third Rak'at, recite Surah Nasr

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
When there comes the help of Allah and the victory,
And you see men entering the religion of Allah in companies,
Then celebrate the praise of your Lord, and ask His forgiveness; surely He is oft-returning (to mercy).

  7. In the final rakaat, recite Surah Ikhlaas

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
    Say: He, Allah, is One.
Allah is He on Whom all depend.
He begets not, nor is He begotten.
    And none is like Him.

  8. Recite the dua from Imam Jafer As Sadiq in the last sajdah of fourth rakaat. It can also be recited after the prayer

Glory be to Him Who has dressed Himself dignity and sobriety!
Glory be to Him Who has deigned and condescended with grandeur!
Glory be to Him save Whom none is worthy of being glorified!
Glory be to Him Whose knowledge has counted all things!
Glory be to the Lord of bounty and boon!
Glory be to the Lord of omnipotence and nobility!
O Allah, I beseech You in the name of the objects of dignity in Your Throne,
in the name of the utmost of mercy in Your Book,
and in the name of Your Greatest Name
    and Your Accomplished Words,
which have been accomplished truly and justly,
(please) send blessings to Muhammad and his Household…
    ..
Then, you may mention your needs in the form of supplication.

  9. Recite this dua from Imam Jafar as Sadiq after the prayer is over

    O Lord, O Lord!
Say it as many times as possible in one breath.
O my Lord, O my Lord!
Say it as many times as possible in one breath
    Lord, Lord!
Say it as many times as possible in one breath.
    O Allah, O Allah!
    O Ever-living, O Ever-living!
    ...
Say it as many times as possible in one breath.
    O All-merciful, O All-merciful!
    THEN Repeat it seven times.
    O All-compassionate, O All-compassionate!
    Repeat it seven times.
O Most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

  10. After commencement of the prayer, recite this dua

O Allah, I commence my wording with declaring praise to You,
I utter the words of tribute to You,
I glorify You although Your glory is limitless,
and I compliment You although none can ever compliment You as much as You deserve and none can ever attain the extent of Your glory!
And how can Your creatures ever recognize Your glory [in its actual measure]!
And how can there be any moment for which You do not deserve praise due to Your favors
and in which You are not ascribed to glory
and in which You do not incessantly treat the sinful with Your forbearance?
Although the inhabitants of Your earth have fallen behind in being obedient to You,
You have been kind to them out of Your munificence,
    munificent out of Your favors,
and liberal out of Your generosity.
O He save Whom there is no god! O All-benevolent!
