It is quoted in the book al-Ihtijaj of Shaykh al-Tabarsi from ʿAbdullah b. Hasan who relates from his fore-fathers that when Sayyidah Zahra was informed that Abū Bakr had confiscated Fadak, she put on her veil and cloak, and accompanied by some servants and women of the Bani Hashim, came to the Masjid and facing Abū Bakr and the Muslims who were present, recited a powerful sermon.

Sayyidah Zahra had worn a long dress (and was thus placing her feet upon her dress) and her way of walking was similar to that of the Prophet. When she entered the Masjid, Abū Bakr was seated with a group of the Muhajirin, Anṣar and others and a curtain was put up for her and she sat behind it.

خطبه فدکیه حضرت زهرا

اَلْحَمْدُلِلَّهِ عَلی ما اَنْعَمَ،
Praise be to Allah for His bounties (upon us)
وَ لَهُ الشُّکْرُ عَلی ما اَلْهَمَ،
and thanks be to Him for all that He inspired;
وَ الثَّناءُ بِما قَدَّمَ، مِنْ عُمُومِ نِعَمٍ اِبْتَدَاَها،
and commended is His name for all the bounties He created before our own creation,
وَ سُبُوغِ الاءٍ اَسْداها،
for all the common bounties that He bestowed (upon us) from His Ownself without even (our) asking for it,
وَ تَمامِ مِنَنٍ اَوْلاها،
abundant and complete bounties,
جَمَّ عَنِ الْاِحْصاءِ عَدَدُها،
such plenteous and unlimited bounties whose numbers cannot be computed,
وَ نَأى عَنِ الْجَزاءِ اَمَدُها،
and thanks cannot be offered for their duration and commencement
وَ تَفاوَتَ عَنِ الْاِدْراکِ اَبَدُها،
bounties, whose perpetuity is beyond comprehension.
وَ نَدَبَهُمْ لاِسْتِزادَتِها بِالشُّکْرِ لاِتِّصالِها،
He invited (His servants) to offer praise, thus resulting in an increase and perpetuity (in their blessings),
وَ اسْتَحْمَدَ اِلَى الْخَلائِقِ بِاِجْزالِها،
and in lieu of this abundance (of bounties), Allah desired that His creatures praise Him.
وَ ثَنی بِالنَّدْبِ اِلى اَمْثالِها.
Again, He invited you (to perform good deeds) resulting in bounties of this world as well as for the hereafter.
وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللَّهُ
I bear witness that there is no other deity (worthy of worship) except Allah
وَحْدَهُ لا شَریکَ لَهُ،
He is Unique and Unparalleled.
کَلِمَةٌ جَعَلَ الْاِخْلاصَ تَأْویلَها،
Certainly interpretation (and result) of this witness (of monotheism) is sincerity,
وَ ضَمَّنَ الْقُلُوبَ مَوْصُولَها،
and it’s comprehension has been placed in the hearts,
وَ اَنارَ فِی التَّفَکُّرِ مَعْقُولَها،
and the mind is illuminated by its (profound) understanding.
الْمُمْتَنِعُ عَنِ الْاَبْصارِ رُؤْیَتُهُ،
He (Allah) cannot be seen with the eyes,
وَ مِنَ الْاَلْسُنِ صِفَتُهُ،
nor can He be described with the tongues,
وَ مِنَ الْاَوْهامِ کَیْفِیَّتُهُ.
and His state cannot be perceived.
اِبْتَدَعَ الْاَشْیاءَ لا مِنْ شَىْ‏ءٍ کانَ قَبْلَها،
He is the One Who created all things without any past prototype,
وَ اَنْشَاَها بِلاَاحْتِذاءِ اَمْثِلَةٍ اِمْتَثَلَها،
and originated them without having any past image and equals.
کَوَّنَها بِقُدْرَتِهِ وَ ذَرَأَها بِمَشِیَّتِهِ،
Rather He created them with His Might and dispersed them according to His Will,
مِنْ غَیْرِ حاجَةٍ مِنْهُ اِلى تَکْوینِها،
He did not create them for a need,
وَ لا فائِدَةٍ لَهُ فی تَصْویرِها،
nor did He shape them for a benefit (for Himself),
اِلاَّ تَثْبیتاً لِحِکْمَتِهِ
but rather (He did all of this) to establish His Wisdom
وَ تَنْبیهاً عَلی طاعَتِهِ،
and to bring their (the creature’s) attention to His obedience,
وَ اِظْهاراً لِقُدْرَتِهِ
and manifest His Might
وَ تَعَبُّداً لِبَرِیَّتِهِ،
and by dispatching His prophets and friends.
وَ اِعْزازاً لِدَعْوَتِهِ،
he strengthened His invitation
ثُمَّ جَعَلَ الثَّوابَ عَلی طاعَتِهِ،
Thus He provided recompense for His obedience
وَ وَضَعَ الْعِقابَ عَلی مَعْصِیَتِهِ،
and granted punishment for His disobedience,
ذِیادَةً لِعِبادِهِ مِنْ نِقْمَتِهِ
(He informed) His slaves from performing such acts that invite His wrath,
وَ حِیاشَةً لَهُمْ اِلى جَنَّتِهِ
and thus would gather them in His Paradise.
وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ اَبی‏مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ،
And I bear witness that my father Muhammad, is His slave and His Messenger,
اِخْتارَهُ قَبْلَ اَنْ اَرْسَلَهُ،
Allah the Almighty chose him and selected him before bestowing prophethood upon him,
وَ سَمَّاهُ قَبْلَ اَنْ اِجْتَباهُ،
and named him before selecting him,
وَ اصْطَفاهُ قَبْلَ اَنْ اِبْتَعَثَهُ،
and chose him before sending him (for the mission of Islam),
اِذ الْخَلائِقُ بِالْغَیْبِ مَکْنُونَةٌ،
when the whole of creation was concealed in the hidden world,
وَ بِسَتْرِ الْاَهاویلِ مَصُونَةٌ،
and they were in awe,
وَ بِنِهایَةِ الْعَدَمِ مَقْرُونَةٌ،
and were in the extinction of nothingness.
عِلْماً مِنَ اللَّهِ تَعالی بِمائِلِ الْاُمُورِ،
Almighty Allah was certainly aware of the consequences of all the tasks,
وَ اِحاطَةً بِحَوادِثِ الدُّهُورِ،
and was acquainted with the occurrences of the ages,
وَ مَعْرِفَةً بِمَواقِعِ الْاُمُورِ
and conscious of the position of the destined.
اِبْتَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ اِتْماماً لِاَمْرِهِ،
Allah sent His Prophet so as to complete His commands,
وَ عَزیمَةً عَلى اِمْضاءِ حُکْمِهِ،
to execute His rulings,
وَ اِنْفاذاً لِمَقادیرِ رَحْمَتِهِ،
and to deliver His decisive ordinances.
فَرَأَى الْاُمَمَ فِرَقاً فی اَدْیانِها،
He saw the nation divided into various religions,
عُکَّفاً عَلی نیرانِها،
addicted to their places of worship,
عابِدَةً لِاَوْثانِها،
worshipping their idols,
مُنْکِرَةً لِلَّهِ مَعَ عِرْفانِها
denying Allah despite their knowledge of Him.
فَاَنارَ اللَّهُ بِاَبی‏مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ و الِهِ ظُلَمَها،
Then through the medium of my father Muhammad, Allah illuminated their darkness (misguidance)
وَ کَشَفَ عَنِ الْقُلُوبِ بُهَمَها،
and lifted the veils of obscurity from their hearts,
وَ جَلى عَنِ الْاَبْصارِ غُمَمَها،
and removed ignorance from their eyes.
وَ قامَ فِی النَّاسِ بِالْهِدایَةِ،
He (the Prophet) stood up among them for their guidance;
فَاَنْقَذَهُمْ مِنَ الْغِوایَةِ،
delivered them from misguidance,
وَ بَصَّرَهُمْ مِنَ الْعِمایَةِ،
enlightened their eyes from blindness,
وَ هَداهُمْ اِلَى الدّینِ الْقَویمِ،
guided them towards the ‘Straight Religion’
وَ دَعاهُمْ اِلَى الطَّریقِ الْمُسْتَقیمِ
and invited them towards ‘the Right Path’.
ثُمَّ قَبَضَهُ اللَّهُ اِلَیْهِ قَبْضَ رَأْفَةٍ وَ اخْتِیارٍ،
Then, Allah took away his soul with affection and by his choice,
وَ رَغْبَةٍ وَ ایثارٍ،
willingness and submission.
فَمُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ و الِهِ
Thus, Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny
مِنْ تَعَبِ هذِهِ الدَّارِ فی راحَةٍ،
was relieved of the toils of this world and entered (the world of) comfort.
قَدْ حُفَّ بِالْمَلائِکَةِ الْاَبْرارِ
There, he lives in ease among the righteous angels,
وَ رِضْوانِ الرَّبِّ الْغَفَّارِ،
and in the Paradise of the forgiving Lord,
وَ مُجاوَرَةِ الْمَلِکِ الْجَبَّارِ،
and in the neighborhood of the Mighty King.
صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلی أَبی نَبِیِّهِ
May Allah’s mercy be upon my father, His messenger
وَ اَمینِهِ وَ خِیَرَتِهِ مِنَ الْخَلْقِ وَ صَفِیِّهِ،
and the trustworthy one, the best among His creations, His chosen one
وَ السَّلامُ عَلَیْهِ وَ رَحْمَةُاللَّهِ وَ بَرَکاتُهُ
and peace upon him and Allah’s Mercy and Blessings.
ثم التفت الى اهل المجلس و قالت:
Then she turned to the people and said:
فیکُمْ، وَ عَهْدٍ قَدَّمَهُ اِلَیْکُمْ،
A pledge had been taken from you in advance by Allah
وَ بَقِیَّةٍ اِسْتَخْلَفَها عَلَیْکُمْ:
and there is among you His remembrance
کِتابُ اللَّهِ النَّاطِقُ
and that is the book of Allah , the speaking one.
وَ الْقُرْانُ الصَّادِقُ،
Qurʾan, the book of complete truthfulness
و النُّورُ السَّاطِعُ وَ الضِّیاءُ اللاَّمِعُ،
and a bright light, the brilliant light.
بَیِّنَةً بَصائِرُهُ، مُنْکَشِفَةً سَرائِرُهُ،
Its imminence is evident, its secrets are revealed,
مُنْجَلِیَةً ظَواهِرُهُ، مُغْتَبِطَةً بِهِ اَشْیاعُهُ،
its apparent aspects are clear, its adherents become reasons for others to envy,
قائِداً اِلَى الرِّضْوانِ اِتِّباعُهُ،
it leads its adherents to the status of paradise (or the pleasure of Allah),
مُؤَدٍّ اِلَى النَّجاةِ اسْتِماعُهُ
its listeners are guided towards salvation
بِهِ تُنالُ حُجَجُ اللَّهِ الْمُنَوَّرَةُ،
and through it are gained the illuminated evidences of Allah.
وَ عَزائِمُهُ الْمُفَسَّرَةُ، وَ مَحارِمُهُ الْمُحَذَّرَةُ،
It determines the ordinances and prohibitions (of Allah),
وَ بَیِّناتُهُ الْجالِیَةُ، وَ بَراهینُهُ الْکافِیَةُ،
its evidences are illuminated and its proofs are sufficient,
وَ فَضائِلُهُ الْمَنْدُوبَةُ،
it contains the virtues of the recommendable acts (mustahabbat),
وَ رُخَصُهُ الْمَوْهُوبَةُ،
freedom with regards to performing the lawful things (mubah),
وَ شَرائِعُهُ الْمَکْتُوبَةُ.
and in it are written down other legal laws (of Islam).
فَجَعَلَ اللَّهُ الْایمانَ تَطْهیراً لَکُمْ مِنَ الشِّرْکِ،
Faith has been set so as to cleanse you of polytheism;
وَ الصَّلاةَ تَنْزیهاً لَکُمْ عَنِ الْکِبْرِ،
ṣalat (prayers) are prescribed to keep you away from pride,
وَ الزَّکاةَ تَزْکِیَةً لِلنَّفْسِ
zakat (charity) has been prescribed to purify ones’ self
وَ نِماءً فِی الرِّزْقِ،
and results in the increase of sustenance
وَ الصِّیامَ تَثْبیتاً لِلْاِخْلاصِ،
fasting has been prescribed so that genuineness may be reinforced;
وَ الْحَجَّ تَشْییداً لِلدّینِ،
hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) has been prescribed to establish the religion
وَ الْعَدْلَ تَنْسیقاً لِلْقُلُوبِ،
justice is prescribed to establish proper harmony in the hearts
وَ طاعَتَنا نِظاماً لِلْمِلَّةِ،
the obligation to obey us (the Ahlul Bayt) has been prescribed to set up order in the community,
وَ اِما مَتَنا اَماناً لِلْفُرْقَةِ،
and our authority (imamah) has been prescribed to save the people from differences.
وَ الْجِهادَ عِزّاً لِلْاِسْلامِ،
Jihad (struggle) is the honour of Islam and a humiliation for the people of polytheism and hypocrisy;
وَ الصَّبْرَ مَعُونَةً عَلَی اسْتیجابِ الْاَجْرِ
patience has been made a medium for recompense to be bestowed;
وَ الْاَمْرَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ مَصْلِحَةً لِلْعامَّةِ،
enjoining good has been prescribed for the general welfare (of the society);
وَ بِرَّ الْوالِدَیْنِ وِقایَةً مِنَ السَّخَطِ،
righteousness with one’s parents is a safeguard against His (Allah’s) wrath;
وَ صِلَةَ الْاَرْحامِ مَنْساءً فِی الْعُمْرِ وَ مَنْماةً لِلْعَدَدِ،
kindness with one’s relatives is a medium of increasing one’s age and results in an increase of friends and relations;
وَ الْقِصاصَ حِقْناً لِلدِّماءِ،
retribution has been prescribed so that people’s lives may be safe-guarded;
وَ الْوَفاءَ بِالنَّذْرِ تَعْریضاً لِلْمَغْفِرَةِ،
fulfillment of vows leads to forgiveness;
وَ تَوْفِیَةَ الْمَکائیلِ وَ الْمَوازینِ تَغْییراً لِلْبَخْسِ
consideration of accuracy in measurement in weighing commodities saves one from loss.
اَنْتُمْ عِبادَ اللَّهِ نُصُبُ اَمْرِهِ وَ نَهْیِهِ،
You are the slaves of Allah and you are the establishers of His commands and prohibitions.
وَ حَمَلَةُ دینِهِ وَ وَحْیِهِ،
You are the possessors of His religion and His revelation,
وَ اُمَناءُ اللَّهِ عَلى اَنْفُسِکُمْ،
the trustworthy ones with regards to yourselves
وَ بُلَغاؤُهُ اِلَى الْاُمَمِ،
and you should propagate it (Islam) to other nations,
زَعیمُ حَقٍّ لَهُ
do you deem yourselves worthy of all this?
وَ النَّهْىَ عَنْ شُرْبِ الْخَمْرِ تَنْزیهاً عَنِ الرِّجْسِ،
Prohibition of intoxicants has been prescribed so that humanity may remain away from filth;
وَ اجْتِنابَ الْقَذْفِ حِجاباً عَنِ اللَّعْنَةِ،
the prohibition of defaming (of adultery) has been prescribed so as to keep oneself away from the curse of Allah;
وَ تَرْکَ السِّرْقَةِ ایجاباً لِلْعِصْمَةِ،
robbery has been prohibited so that the hands may be pure;
وَ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ الشِّرْکَ اِخْلاصاً لَهُ بِالرُّبوُبِیَّةِ
and polytheism has been prohibited so that sincerity may be established in Allah’s Divinity.
فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقاتِهِ، وَ لا تَمُوتُنَّ اِلاَّ وَ اَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ،
Thus fear Allah as you should, and (see that) you die not but as Muslims.
وَ اَطیعُوا اللَّهَ فیما اَمَرَکُمْ بِهِ وَ نَهاکُمْ عَنْهُ،
Obey Allah with regards to His orders and prohibitions
فَاِنَّهُ اِنَّما یَخْشَی اللَّهَ مِنْ عِبادِهِ الْعُلَماءُ.
for surely only those of His servants are conscious of Allah who are endowed with knowledge.
ثم قالت:
Then she said
اَیُّهَا النَّاسُ! اِعْلَمُوا اَنّی فاطِمَةُ وَ اَبی‏مُحَمَّدٌ،
O people! Know that I am Fatima and my father was Muhammad.
اَقُولُ عَوْداً وَ بَدْءاً،
I say and I will repeat this again and again
وَ لا اَقُولُ ما اَقُولُ غَلَطاً،
and I do not utter any falsehood,
وَ لا اَفْعَلُ ما اَفْعَلُ شَطَطاً،
and whatever I do shall not be wrong.
لَقَدْ جاءَکُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ اَنْفُسِکُمْ
Indeed an Apostle from among yourselves has come to you,
عَزیزٌ عَلَیْهِ ما عَنِتُّمْ حَریصٌ عَلَیْکُمْ
grievous to him is your falling into distress, (he is) solicitous regarding your welfare,
بِالْمُؤْمِنینَ رَؤُوفٌ رَحیمٌ
towards the faithful (he is) compassionate, (and) merciful.
فَاِنْ تَعْزُوهُ وَتَعْرِفُوهُ تَجِدُوهُ
If you look and understand, you will find
اَبی دُونَ نِسائِکُمْ،
that this Apostle is my father and not the father of any one of your women;
وَ اَخَا ابْنِ عَمّی دُونَ رِجالِکُمْ،
he is the brother of my cousin (Ali) and not the brother of any one of your men
وَ لَنِعْمَ الْمَعْزِىُّ اِلَیْهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ وَ الِهِ
and how fortunate is the one related to him (the Prophet).
فَبَلَّغَ الرِّسالَةَ صادِعاً بِالنَّذارَةِ،
The Prophet proclaimed the message and warned the people
مائِلاً عَنْ مَدْرَجَةِ الْمُشْرِکینَ،
from ignorance and polytheism and worked at opposing the customs of the polytheists
ضارِباً ثَبَجَهُمْ، اخِذاً بِاَکْظامِهِمْ
He broke their backs while their breath was entrapped in their chests.
داعِیاً اِلى سَبیلِ رَبِّهِ بِالْحِکْمَةِ و الْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ،
He called to the way of his Lord with wisdom and kind exhortation.
یَجُفُّ الْاَصْنامَ وَ یَنْکُثُ الْهامَّ،
He broke the idols and crushed the heads (of rebellion)
حَتَّى انْهَزَمَ الْجَمْعُ وَ وَ لَّوُا الدُّبُرَ.
of the polytheists until they were eradicated and took to flight.
حَتَّى تَفَرََّى اللَّیْلُ عَنْ صُبْحِهِ،
Then, the darkness of the night passed and it dawned
وَ اَسْفَرَ الْحَقُّ عَنْ مَحْضِهِ،
and the truth became manifest in its true form.
و نَطَقَ زَعیمُ‏الدّینِ،
When the leader of the religion (the Prophet) spoke,
وَ خَرَسَتْ شَقاشِقُ الشَّیاطینِ،
foam gushed forth from the mouths of the polytheists and they became silent
وَ طاحَ وَ شیظُ النِّفاقِ،
the degraded group of the hypocrites was annihilated
وَ انْحَلَّتْ عُقَدُ الْکُفْرِ وَ الشَّقاقِ،
and pledges between disbelief and animosity broke.
وَ فُهْتُمْ بِکَلِمَةِ الْاِخْلاصِ
You all started uttering words of sincerity (Monotheism)
فی نَفَرٍ مِنَ الْبیضِ الْخِماصِ.
amongst a band of starved ones
وَ کُنْتُمْ عَلى شَفا حُفْرَةٍ مِنَ النَّارِ،
Indeed, you were on the brink of the pit of the hell-fire.
مُذْقَةَ الشَّارِبِ،
(you were) the drink of the thirsty one;
وَ نُهْزَةَ الطَّامِعِ،
the opportunity of the desiring one;
وَ قُبْسَةَ الْعِجْلانِ،
the fire brand of him who passes in haste;
وَ مَوْطِی‏ءَ الْاَقْدامِ،
the step for feet;
تَشْرَبُونَ الطَّرْقَ،
you used to drink from the water gathered on roads;
وَ تَقْتاتُونَ الْقِدَّ،
eat jerked meat.
اَذِلَّةً خاسِئینَ،
You were despised outcasts
تَخافُونَ اَنْ یَتَخَطَّفَکُمُ النَّاسُ مِنْ حَوْلِکُمْ،
always in fear of abduction from those around you.
فَاَنْقَذَکُمُ اللَّهُ تَبارَکَ وَ تَعالی
Then Allah, the Blessed, the Sublime, delivered you
بِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ وَ الِهِ
through the medium of my father Muhammad,
بَعْدَ اللَّتَیَّا وَ الَّتی،
you attained this deliverance after he (the Prophet) had to face numerous difficulties
وَ بَعْدَ اَنْ مُنِیَ بِبُهَمِ الرِّجالِ،
and fight with the stubborn polytheists,
وَ ذُؤْبانِ الْعَرَبِ،
the beasts among the ʿArabs
وَ مَرَدَةِ اَهْلِ الْکِتابِ.
and after that with the People of the Book.
کُلَّما اَوْقَدُوا ناراً لِلْحَرْبِ اَطْفَأَهَا اللَّهُ،
Whenever the polytheists kindled the fire of wars, Allah would put it out;
اَوْ نَجَمَ قَرْنُ الشَّیْطانِ،
and when the adherents of Satan would manifest themselves
اَوْ فَغَرَتْ فاغِرَةٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِکینَ،
or the beastly ones among the polytheists opened their mouths of envy,
قَذَفَ اَخاهُ فی لَهَواتِها،
he (the Prophet) would dispatch his brother (Imam ʿAli) towards them.
فَلا یَنْکَفِی‏ءُ حَتَّى یَطَأَ جِناحَها بِأَخْمَصِهِ،
He (Ali) would crush them and extinguish
وَ یَخْمِدَ لَهَبَها بِسَیْفِهِ،
the blaze of their fire with his sword
مَکْدُوداً فی ذاتِ اللَّهِ،
and he (Ali) bore extreme brutality in the way of Allah
مُجْتَهِداً فی اَمْرِ اللَّهِ،
and strove to obey the commands of Allah.
قَریباً مِنْ رَسُولِ‏اللَّهِ،
He was the nearest to the Prophet of Allah
سَیِّداً فی اَوْلِیاءِ اللَّهِ،
and the master of the friends of Allah.
مُشَمِّراً ناصِحاً مُجِدّاً کادِحاً،
He was always ready to serve the creations (of Allah), looking over the welfare of the people,
لا تَأْخُذُهُ فِی اللَّهِ لَوْمَةَ لائِمٍ.
endeavoring and toiling (in this way) and he was not affected with the censure of any censurer;
وَ اَنْتُمَ فی رَفاهِیَّةٍ مِنَ الْعَیْشِ،
while you were living a life of pleasure and peace,
و ادِعُونَ فاکِهُونَ آمِنُونَ،
and were far away from the severity of battle, (you were in) enjoyment and security.
تَتَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَا الدَّوائِرَ،
waiting for us to meet disasters,
وَ تَتَوَکَّفُونَ الْاَخْبارَ،
awaiting the spread of news,
وَ تَنْکُصُونَ عِنْدَ النِّزالِ،
you fell back during every battle,
وَ تَفِرُّونَ مِنَ الْقِتالِ
and took to your heels at times of fighting.
فَلَمَّا اِختارَ اللَّهُ لِنَبِیِّهِ
Thus when Allah the Almighty exalted his Prophet
دارَ اَنْبِیائِهِ وَ مَأْوى اَصْفِیائِهِ،
(from this world) towards the abode of His prophets and His chosen ones,
ظَهَرَ فیکُمْ حَسْکَةُ النِّفاقِ،
the thorns of hypocrisy became manifest in you
وَ سَمَلَ جِلْبابُ الدّینِ،
and the mantle of your religion gave,
وَ نَطَقَ کاظِمُ الْغاوینَ،
and the astray ones, who were silent until yesterday, suddenly started shrieking;
وَ نَبَغَ خامِلُ الْاَقَلّینَ،
the degraded and mean ones came out of their burrows into the open ground,
وَ هَدَرَ فَنیقُ الْمُبْطِلینَ،
and the valiant ones of the polytheists of falsehood started roaring.
فَخَطَرَ فی عَرَصاتِکُمْ،
Now, these very people have taken the reins of authority into their hands
وَ اَطْلَعَ الشَّیْطانُ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ مَغْرَزِهِ،
and Satan has raised his head from the place of his concealment,
هاتِفاً بِکُمْ، فَأَلْفاکُمْ لِدَعْوَتِهِ مُسْتَجیبینَ،
inviting you towards evil - thus he found you to be among those accepting his invitation
وَ لِلْغِرَّةِ فیهِ مُلاحِظینَ،
and you held him (in esteem) with the intention of securing position or being deceived.
ثُمَّ اسْتَنْهَضَکُمْ فَوَجَدَکُمْ خِفافاً،
Satan invited you to rebel and found you to be (among the) basest and meanest of people
وَ اَحْمَشَکُمْ فَاَلْفاکُمْ غِضاباً،
and he incited your rage and thus you became enraged.
فَوَسَمْتُمْ غَیْرَ اِبِلِکُمْ،
Then you started to snatch the rights of others
وَ وَرَدْتُمْ غَیْرَ مَشْرَبِکُمْ.
and entered the spring that did not belong to you
هذا، وَ الْعَهْدُ قَریبٌ،
and you did all of this when not much time had passed since the passing of the Prophet
وَالْکَلْمُ رَحیبٌ،
and the wound (of his death) was deep
وَ الْجُرْحُ لَمَّا یَنْدَمِلُ،
and our hearts had not yet healed,
وَ الرَّسُولُ لَمَّا یُقْبَرُ،
and the corpse of the Prophet was not even laid to rest in the grave!
اِبْتِداراً زَعَمْتُمْ خَوْفَ الْفِتْنَةِ،
You acted very swiftly claiming to dread the outbreak of an agitation
اَلا فِی الْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا،
Surely into trial have you already fallen,
وَ اِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحیطَةٌ بِالْکافِرینَ.
and verily hell encompasses the infidels.
فَهَیْهاتَ مِنْکُمْ، وَ کَیْفَ بِکُمْ،
Far be it away from you! What has happened to you?
وَ اَنَّى تُؤْفَکُونَ،
Where are you wandering
وَ کِتابُ اللَّهِ بَیْنَ اَظْهُرِکُمْ،
while the book of Allah (The Qurʾan) is amongst you;
اُمُورُهُ ظاهِرَةٌ، وَ اَحْکامُهُ زاهِرَةٌ،
whose orders are apparent and judgements are illuminated;
وَ اَعْلامُهُ باهِرَةٌ، و زَواجِرُهُ لائِحَةٌ،
its emblems dazzling and whose enjoinments
وَ اَوامِرُهُ واضِحَةٌ،
and prohibitions are straightforward.
وَ قَدْ خَلَّفْتُمُوهُ وَراءَ ظُهُورِکُمْ،
Did you not leave it behind your backs and then
أَرَغْبَةً عَنْهُ تُریدُونَ؟
turned your faces away from it in disgust?
اَمْ بِغَیْرِهِ تَحْکُمُونَ؟
and turned to something else for judgement?
بِئْسَ لِلظَّالمینَ بَدَلاً،
Evil for the unjust will be the exchange;
وَ مَنْ یَبْتَغِ غَیْرَ الْاِسْلامِ دیناً
and whoever seeks a religion other than Islam,
فَلَنْ یُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ،
it will never be accepted from him,
وَ هُوَ فِی الْاخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخاسِرینِ.
and in the next world he will be among the losers.
ثُمَّ لَمْ تَلْبَثُوا اِلى رَیْثَ اَنْ تَسْکُنَ نَفْرَتَها،
You did not even wait that the tempest may calm down!
وَ یَسْلَسَ قِیادَها،
Rather, you hastened to take the reins (of the caliphate) into your hands.
ثُمَّ اَخَذْتُمْ تُورُونَ وَ قْدَتَها،
After having acquired it (the caliphate), you started to ignite the fire of mutiny
وَ تُهَیِّجُونَ جَمْرَتَها،
and you became engrossed in inciting the fire.
وَ تَسْتَجیبُونَ لِهِتافِ الشَّیْطانِ الْغَوِىِّ،
You responded to the call of Satan, the seducer,
وَ اِطْفاءِ اَنْوارِالدّینِ الْجَلِیِّ،
and you intended to put out the light of the glorious religion.
وَ اِهْمالِ سُنَنِ النَّبِیِّ الصَّفِیِّ،
You started to destroy the practices of the chosen Prophet,
تُسِرُّونَ حَسْواً فِی ارْتِغاءٍ،
then you delighted in suckling the delicacies of the caliphate
وَ تَمْشُونَ لِاَهْلِهِ وَ وَلَدِهِ فِی الْخَمَرِ وَ الضَّرَّاءِ،
and opposed the Ahlul Bayt in secret and in the open.
وَ نَصْبِرُ مِنْکُمْ عَلى مِثْلِ حَزِّ الْمَدى،
We have no choice but to bear the cuts of your daggers
وَ وَخْزِالسنان‏فى‏الحشا
and the piercing of your spears into the body.
وَ اَنْتُمُ الانَ تَزَْعُمُونَ اَنْ لا اِرْثَ لَنا
Now you presume that we do not have any inheritance from the Prophet.
أَفَحُکْمَ الْجاهِلِیَّةِ تَبْغُونَ،
Is it the judgement of (the days of) ignorance (the Pagan era) that they desire?
وَ مَنْ اَحْسَنُ مِنَ اللَّهِ حُکْماً لِقَومٍ یُوقِنُونَ، أَفَلا تَعْلَمُونَ؟
Who (else) can be better than Allah to judge for the people of assured faith.
بَلى، قَدْ تَجَلَّى لَکُمْ کَالشَّمْسِ الضَّاحِیَةِ
Indeed, it is as bright as the sun that
أَنّی اِبْنَتُهُ
I am the daughter of the Prophet of Allah.
اَیُّهَا الْمُسْلِمُونَ!
O Muslims!
أَاُغْلَبُ عَلى اِرْثی؟
Is it befitting that I am deprived of my inheritance?
یَابْنَ اَبی‏قُحافَةَ!
O son of Abū Quhafah (Abu Bakr)!
اَفی کِتابِ اللَّهِ تَرِثُ اَباکَ
Is it contained in the Glorious Qurʾan that one should inherit from their father;
وَ لا اَرِثُ اَبی؟
while in your opinion, I should not inherit from my father?
لَقَدْ جِئْتَ شَیْئاً فَرِیّاً،
Indeed you have come with an unusual thing (attributed upon Allah and His Prophet)
اَفَعَلى عَمْدٍ تَرَکْتُمْ کِتابَ اللَّهِ
Did you then intentionally forsake the Book of Allah
وَ نَبَذْتُمُوهُ وَراءَ ظُهُورِکُمْ،
and leave it behind your backs?
إذْ یَقُولُ‪:‬
Allah says:
وَ وَرِثَ سُلَیْمانُ داوُدَ
And Sulayman inherited Dawūd
وَ قالَ فیما اقْتَصَّ مِنْ خَبَرِ زَکَرِیَّا اِذْ قالَ:
in regards to the life of Zakariyyah, He says:
فَهَبْ لی مِنْ لَدُنْکَ وَلِیّاً یَرِثُنی وَ یَرِثُ مِنْ الِ‏یَعْقُوبَ،
So grant me from Yourself an heir who shall inherit from me and inherit from the family of Yaʿqūb
وَ قالَ:
Allah also says:
وَ اوُلُوا الْاَرْحامِ بَعْضُهُمْ اَوْلی ببَعْضٍ فی کِتابِ اللَّهِ،
And the blood relations are nearer to each other in the Book of Allah;
وَ قالَ‪:‬
Allah says:
یُوصیکُمُ اللَّهُ فی اَوْلادِکُمْ لِلذَّکَرِ مِثْلُ حَظِّ الْاُنْثَیَیْنِ،
Allah enjoins upon you about your children - the male shall have the equal of the shares of two females
وَ قالَ‪:‬
and He also says:
اِنْ تَرَکَ خَیْراً الْوَصِیَّةَ لِلْوالِدَیْنِ وَالْاَقْرَبَیْنِ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
If he (the believer) leaves behind any goods that he makes a bequest for parents and (the nearest) kinsmen in goodness
حَقّاً عَلَى الْمُتَّقینَ
(this is) a duty upon the pious ones.
وَ زَعَمْتُمْ اَنْ لا حَظْوَةَ لی،
You assume that I do not have a share and allowance (in the inheritance)
وَ لا اَرِثُ مِنْ اَبی،
and that I should not inherit from my father
وَ لا رَحِمَ بَیْنَنا،
and that there is no relation between us?
اَفَخَصَّکُمُ اللَّهُ بِایَةٍ
Has Allah in His verses (of the Qurʾan) not taken into consideration everyone in general and are not all (of the) classes of men included in these verses?
اَخْرَجَ اَبی مِنْها؟
Is my father discharged from the applicability of this verse
اَمْ هَلْ تَقُولُونَ:
or do you say that
اِنَّ اَهْلَ مِلَّتَیْنِ لا یَتَوارَثانِ؟
two people of the same community do not inherit from one another?
اَوَ لَسْتُ اَنَا وَ اَبی مِنْ اَهْلِ مِلَّةٍ واحِدَةٍ؟
Are my father and I not a part and parcel of one community?
اَمْ اَنْتُمْ اَعْلَمُ بِخُصُوصِ الْقُرْانِ
Then, are you more cognizant of understanding the general and particular verses of the Qurʾan
وَ عُمُومِهِ مِنْ اَبی وَابْنِ عَمّی؟
than my father and my cousin (Ali)?
فَدُونَکَها مَخْطُومَةً مَرْحُولَةً تَلْقاکَ یَوْمَ حَشْرِکَ
Then take it (Fadak) until we meet you on the Day of Judgement
فَنِعْمَ الْحَکَمُ اللَّهُ،
where Allah will be the Best Judge,
وَ الزَّعیمُ مُحَمَّدٌ،
and Muhammad will be the claimant on that day,
وَ الْمَوْعِدُ الْقِیامَةُ،
and our destined time of meeting will be the Resurrection
وَ عِنْدَ السَّاعَةِ یَخْسِرُ الْمُبْطِلُونَ،
and on that promised day, the fallacious ones will be engulfed in deep loss
وَ لا یَنْفَعُکُمْ اِذْ تَنْدِمُونَ،
and their regret (on that day) will be of no use to them!
وَ لِکُلِّ نَبَأٍ مُسْتَقَرٌّ،
For every prophesy, there is a (prefixed) time
وَ لَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ
and you will soon realize
مَنْ یَأْتیهِ عَذابٌ یُخْزیهِ،
upon whom a torment (of tribulations) will descend which will disgrace him,
وَ یَحِلُّ عَلَیْهِ عَذابٌ مُقیمٌ
and on who falls this lasting punishment.”
ثم رمت بطرفها نحو الانصار، فقالت:
Then Sayyidah Fatima turned towards the Anṣar and said,
یا مَعْشَرَ النَّقیبَةِ
O group of valorous men!
وَ اَعْضادَ الْمِلَّةِ
The aides of the nation!
وَ حَضَنَةَ الْاِسْلامِ!
The helpers of Islam!
ما هذِهِ الْغَمیزَةُ
What is this slackness (that you display)
فی حَقّی وَ السِّنَةُ عَنْ ظُلامَتی؟
in regards to me while you are witnessing the oppression, but you still lie in a deep sleep!
اَما کانَ رَسُولُ‏اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ وَ الِهِ اَبی یَقُولُ:
Did my father not say that
اَلْمَرْءُ یُحْفَظُ فی وُلْدِهِ،
the rights of a father for his children must be considered?
سَرْعانَ ما اَحْدَثْتُمْ وَ عَجْلانَ ذا اِهالَةٍ،
How soon have you changed tracks,
وَ لَکُمْ طاقَةٌ بِما اُحاوِلُ،
even though you possess the strength to stand up for my rights
وَ قُوَّةٌ عَلى ما اَطْلُبُ وَ اُزاوِلُ.
and are capable of supporting me regarding my claim!
اَتَقُولُونَ ماتَ مُحَمَّدٌ؟
Do you then say that Muhammad has passed away (and there remains no responsibility upon us)?
فَخَطْبٌ جَلیلٌ اِسْتَوْسَعَ وَ هْنُهُ،
His loss is great and the crack that has appeared (in Islam) is severe
وَاسْتَنْهَرَ فَتْقُهُ، وَ انْفَتَقَ رَتْقُهُ،
and the division is immense, Unity has been shattered,
وَ اُظْلِمَتِ الْاَرْضُ لِغَیْبَتِهِ،
the Earth is engulfed in darkness due to his concealment,
وَ کُسِفَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَ الْقَمَرُ
the sun and the moon are eclipsed,
وَ انْتَثَرَتِ النُّجُومُ لِمُصیبَتِهِ،
and the stars have scattered away!
وَ اَکْدَتِ الْامالُ،
Hopes have broken,
وَ خَشَعَتِ الْجِبالُ،
mountains have crumbled,
وَ اُضیعَ الْحَریمُ،
the family of the Prophet has been lost
وَ اُزیلَتِ الْحُرْمَةُ عِنْدَ مَماتِهِ
and their sanctity has been dishonored after his death!
فَتِلْکَ وَاللَّهِ النَّازِلَةُ الْکُبْرى وَ الْمُصیبَةُ الْعُظْمى،
This is, by Allah, a great calamity and a grand adversity,
لامِثْلُها نازِلَةٌ،
while this calamity is incomparable
وَ لا بائِقَةٌ عاجِلَةٌ اُعْلِنَ بِها،
and there is no other greater calamity than the death of the Prophet!
کِتابُ اللَّهِ جَلَّ ثَناؤُهُ فی اَفْنِیَتِکُمْ،
This (the death of the Prophet) had already been conveyed to you in the Book of Allah, may He be glorified.
وَ فی مُمْساکُمْ وَ مُصْبِحِکُمْ،
that you were reading day and night
یَهْتِفُ فی اَفْنِیَتِکُمْ هُتافاً
in a loud voice, lamenting,
وَ صُراخاً وَ تِلاوَةً وَ اَلْحاناً،
in a normal tone and in a pleasant voice.
وَ لَقَبْلَهُ ما حَلَّ بِاَنْبِیاءِ اللَّهِ وَ رُسُلِهِ،
As for what happened in the past to Allah’s prophets and apostles
حُکْمٌ فَصْلٌ وَ قَضاءٌ حَتْمٌ.
- the command is decisive and destiny enjoined:
وَ ما مُحَمَّدٌ اِلاَّ رَسُولٌ
And Muhammad is not but an apostle,
قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ
(other) apostles have already passed away prior to him,
اَفَاِنْ ماتَ اَوْ قُتِلَ انْقَلَبْتُمْ عَلى اَعْقابِکُمْ وَ مَنْ یَنْقَلِبْ عَلى عَقِبَیْهِ
therefore if he dies or is killed, will you turn upon your heels?
فَلَنْ یَضُرَّ اللَّهَ شَیْئاً
And he who turns upon his heels will by no means do harm to Allah in the least,
وَ سَیَجْزِى اللَّهُ شَیْئاً وَ سَیَجْزِى اللَّهُ الشَّاکِرینَ
and soon shall We reward the grateful ones.
ایهاً بَنی‏قیلَةَ!
O you people of reflection!
ءَ اُهْضَمُ تُراثَ اَبی وَ اَنْتُمْ
will I be usurped the inheritance of my father
بِمَرْأى مِنّی وَ مَسْمَعٍ
while you hear and see me?
وَ مُنْتَدى وَ مَجْمَعٍ،
(And while) You are sitting and gathered around me?
تَلْبَسُکُمُ الدَّعْوَةُ وَ تَشْمَلُکُمُ الْخُبْرَةُ،
You hear my call, and are included in the (news of the) affair?
وَ اَنْتُمْ ذَوُو الْعَدَدِ وَ الْعُدَّةِ
(But) You are numerous and well equipped!
وَ الْاَداةِ وَ الْقُوَّةِ،
(You have) the means and the power,
وَ عِنْدَکُمُ السِّلاحُ وَ الْجُنَّةُ،
and the weapons and the shields.
تُوافیکُمُ الدَّعْوَةُ فَلا تُجیبُونَ،
Yet, the call reaches you but you do not answer;
وَ تَأْتیکُمُ الصَّرْخَةُ فَلا تُغیثُونَ،
the cry comes to you but you do not come to help?
وَ اَنْتُمْ مَوْصُوفُونَ بِالْکِفاحِ،
(This) While you are characterized by struggle,
مَعْرُوفُونَ بِالْخَیْرِ وَ الصَّلاحِ،
known for goodness and welfare,
وَ النُّخْبَةُ الَّتی انْتُخِبَتْ،
the selected group (which was chosen),
وَ الْخِیَرَةُ الَّتِی اخْتیرَتْ لَنا اَهْلَ الْبَیْتِ
and the best ones chosen by the Messenger for us, Ahlul-Bayt.
قاتَلْتُمُ الْعَرَبَ،
You fought the Arabs,
وَ تَحَمَّلْتُمُ الْکَدَّ وَ التَّعَبَ،
bore with pain and exhaustion,
وَ ناطَحْتُمُ الْاُمَمَ،
struggled against the nations,
وَ کافَحْتُمُ الْبُهَمَ،
and resisted their heroes.
لا نَبْرَحُ اَوْ تَبْرَحُونَ، نَأْمُرُکُمْ فَتَأْتَمِرُونَ،
We were still, so were you in ordering you, and you in obeying us.
حَتَّى اِذا دارَتْ بِنا رَحَى الْاِسْلامِ،
So that Islam became triumphant,
وَ دَرَّ حَلَبُ الْاَیَّامِ،
the accomplishment of the days came near,
وَ خَضَعَتْ نُعْرَةُ الشِّرْکِ،
the fort of polytheism was subjugated
وَ سَکَنَتْ فَوْرَةُ الْاِفْکِ،
the outburst of was subjugated,
وَ خَمَدَتْ نیرانُ الْکُفْرِ،
the outburst of infidelity calmed down,
وَ هَدَأَتْ دَعْوَةُ الْهَرَجِ، وَ اسْتَوْسَقَ نِظامُ الدّینِ،
and the system of religion was well-ordered.
فَاَنَّى حِزْتُمْ بَعْدَ الْبَیانِ،
Thus, (why have you) become con­fused after clearness?
وَاَسْرَرْتُمْ بَعْدَ الْاِعْلانِ،
Conceal matters after announcing them?
وَ نَکَصْتُمْ بَعْدَ الْاِقْدامِ،
Turned on your heels after daring?
وَاَشْرَکْتُمْ بَعْدَ الْایمانِ؟
Associated (others with Allah) after believing?
بُؤْساً لِقَوْمٍ نَکَثُوا اَیْمانَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ عَهْدِهِمْ،
Will you not fight people who violated their oaths?
وَ هَمُّوا بِاِخْراجِ الرَّسُولِ
Plotted to expel the Apostle
وَ هُمْ بَدَؤُکُمْ اَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ،
and became aggressive by being the first (to assault) you?
Do ye fear them?
فَاللَّهُ اَحَقُّ اَنْ تَخْشَوْهُ
Nay, it is Allah Whom ye should more justly fear,
اِنْ کُنْتُمْ مُؤمِنینَ
if you believe!
اَلا، وَ قَدْ أَرى اَنْ قَدْ اَخْلَدْتُمْ اِلَى الْخَفْضِ،
Nevertheless, I see that you are inclined to easy living;
وَ اَبْعَدْتُمْ مَنْ هُوَ اَحَقُّ بِالْبَسْطِ وَ الْقَبْضِ،
dismissed he who is more worthy of guardianship (Ali);
وَ خَلَوْتُمْ بِالدَّعَةِ، وَ نَجَوْتُمْ بِالضّیقِ مِنَ السَّعَةِ،
You secluded yourselves with meekness
فَمَجَجْتُمْ ما وَعَبْتُمْ، وَ دَسَعْتُمُ الَّذى تَسَوَّغْتُمْ،
and dismissed that which you accepted.
فَاِنْ تَکْفُرُوا اَنْتُمْ
Yet, if you show ingratitude,
وَ مَنْ فِی الْاَرْضِ جَمیعاً
ye and all on earth together,
فَاِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَنِیٌّ حَمیدٌ.
yet, Allah free of all wants, worthy of all praise.
اَلا، وَ قَدْ قُلْتُ ما قُلْتُ
Be aware! I have said what I wanted to say,
هذا عَلى مَعْرِفَةٍ مِنّی بِالْخِذْلَةِ الَّتی خامَرْتُکُمْ،
even though I know that you will not assist me as this slackness
وَ الْغَدْرَةِ الَّتِی اسْتَشْعَرَتْها قُلُوبُکُمْ،
of yours to assist us has become a part of your heart (your practice).
وَ لکِنَّها فَیْضَةُ النَّفْسِ،
But all of this complaint is the result of the grief of the heart
وَ نَفْثَةُ الْغَیْظِ،
and the internal rage (that I feel)
وَ حَوَزُ الْقَناةِ،
and (I know that) it is of no use, but I have said this
وَ بَثَّةُ الصَّدْرِ، وَ تَقْدِمَةُ الْحُجَّةِ،
to manifest my internal sorrow and to complete my proof upon you.
فَدُونَکُمُوها فَاحْتَقِبُوها
Thus usurp it (Fadak) and fasten it firmly,
دَبِرَةَ الظَّهْرِ، نَقِبَةَ الْخُفِّ،
for it is weak and feeble,
باقِیَةَ الْعارِ،
while its shame and disgrace will always remain over you.
مَوْسُومَةً بِغَضَبِ الْجَبَّارِ وَ شَنارِ الْاَبَدِ،
The sign of the rage of the Supreme Allah has been cast upon it,
مَوْصُولَةً بِنارِ اللَّهِ الْمُوقَدَةِ
and it will lead you to the fire of Allah which will engulf the heart.
الَّتی تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى الْاَفْئِدَةِ.
and it will be an everlasting disgrace upon you
فَبِعَیْنِ اللَّهِ ما تَفْعَلُونَ،
Thus Allah sees whatever you do,
وَ سَیَعْلَمُ الَّذینَ ظَلَمُوا اَىَّ مُنْقَلَبٍ یَنْقَلِبُونَ،
‘And soon shall those who deal unjustly know what an (evil) turning they will be turned into.’
وَ اَنَا اِبْنَةُ نَذیرٍ لَکُمْ بَیْنَ یَدَىْ عَذابٌ شَدیدٌ،
I am the daughter of that Prophet who was sent to warn you against the severe wrath of Allah,
فَاعْمَلُوا اِنَّا عامِلُونَ، وَ انْتَظِرُوا اِنَّا مُنْتَظِرُونَ.
Act (you) whatever you can, and verily we (too) act, and wait, indeed we too are waiting.”
