Al-Mani` is one of Allah''s Attributes and is derived from man`, the opposite of giving or granting. It also means: to protect, to stop one thing from harming another or one group of people from annihilating another.
Al-Mani in the Quran (Chapter 21)
أَمْ لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٌ تَمْنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصْحَبُونَ ﴿٤٣﴾
Or, have they gods who can defend them against Us? They shall not be able to assist themselves, nor shall they be defended from Us.
